Walkathon for pedestrian safety

Pedestrians face difficulties and risks on the roads every day. Crossing the road can be a dangerous game; walking on pathways impossible or a jumping game. A sad fact is that yearly, 2,700,000 pedestrians are killed in road accidents, of which many are children.

NGOs in Bangalore are organizing a walkathon on 9 May 2013, raising awareness on and pleading for safer roads and pedestrian safety. Children, NGOs and anyone who stands for (children’s) safety on the roads will start walking at 11am, starting from KR circle in Bangalore.

We need safer roads, better organized infrastructure. The walkathon is planned in association with the UN campaign called ‘the long short walk’. Their vision: ‘Safe walking should be a right for all.’

Let this be the vision for Bangalore as well!
